As you can tell, it's an old drawing from high school and the graphite is fading BAD. You can see my actual pencil strokes....yeesh.
There was an contest on MTV about making the cover for Korn's "Issues" album. the winner would get $10,000 and a chance to meet the band. I found out two weeks before the contest was over and I really loved 'em, so I worked hard on this.
I put a kid in an obviously bad situation, which was kind of a theme Korn had back then. I put signs of and the means of abuse, and even put the icon of their record label on the fast-food bag on the bed. I was done 2 days before the deadline and I left it for my mother to Fed-Ex it overnight while I went to work...well, I guess you know how the story ends. My heart broke when I got home late that night and it was still there on the table...*sigh*
People from all different backgrounds have really loved this, which surprises me. They've all told me that I should just send it to Korn anyways, but after all this time I feel I could really do better just re-drawing it first, and I'm not gonna do that.
Also, note how there is a torn teddy bear.... a frustrating-beyond-all-belief coincidence for that's what ended up winning the contest. A pic of a torn bear, though in color.
I would send it in. It's beautifully done, and the emotions pouring out of it is powerful. There's nothing bad that could come out of sending it. So, go for it.
Wow, I'da picked th is over a couple others they chose. Its pretty good. Way better than I coulda done. I didnt even attempt to draw anything for it. But then again Im kinda hard on myself IM told. Anywho, love it.

Ohh I remember that contest! Damn man...you should of won.
Poor little boy. That's very extreme, a homeless young boy, sucking his thumb...with all that shit around him. KoRn would of loved this.
Aww, that is so sad! I think this had really good shot at winning too. It's rendered perfectly and the scene has great elements in it. I especially like the bands name on the wall. Maybe you should send it in to them, if you could. You deserve some recognition!

Well, I'm really impressed with this picture as well and would definitely support the idea of sending the picture (or a copy of it) to Korn. How could they not like it?
